Ten Random Words

Grab a book from your shelf. Any book. It doesn’t matter what it’s about or how it’s written. Close your eyes, flip through the pages and put your finger down on a random word. Write that word down. Repeat until you have ten words in your list.

Now, write a story using those ten words. Make it fun! Let your inner looney run with the piece. Be ridiculous and allow all flights of fancy to run and jump and play on the page.

Once you are done, read it aloud. Play the parts of all the characters. Sketch a picture of the scene. Or end its existence with a ritual burning.

This exercise is a variation on the “Word Salad” exercise from my Kaizen-Muse Creativity Certification Training.
